I speak to the sun and she whispers she’s tired
So she slips from her lips just a glimmer
Of daylight
Then she goes and the moon calls the stars that he hired
To shine and to try and imitate her beauty through the night
But the imitations cheap and the dark says too much
Just another hour more and the games will be up
The play will lose its players to the light of the morn
The birds will start their chirping as a new day is born
And I pray for some strength and she glides through the sky
What will another night look like when my love says goodbye
Will the morning be so gentle each time she returns
Or will she send a tear of longing through the clouds that she burns
Will I awake to the love of the light on my eyes
Or will the shadows consume me in the night where they hide
Will the meadows be so happy as the time they once new
When I called to my love as she set the flowers in bloom
Or will they weep and moan at the close of the day
Just a bucket of tears for the hours she’s away
Though the night may be long though the dark tries its best
It never can compare to my love as she awakes from her rest.
